Prime Minister Mark Carney has called urgent national byelections for three Canadian seats. Voters in Brantford-Brant, Ontario; Châteauguay-Lacolle, Quebec; and Esquimalt-Saanich-Sooke, British Columbia will go to the polls on August 31. Campaigning is now under way, with national parties selecting candidates and locking in strategies. The Conservatives have vowed to press for federal probes on two major concerns: construction oversight of the Gordie Howe bridge and Washington’s threatened tariff measures.
