A strong earthquake hit New Zealand towards the end of July 25. The tremors reached Auckland but no casualties or destruction were reported so far. In California, a smaller 2.1 quake struck near Ocotillo Wells the day before. Heavy aftershocks continue to strike Venezuela after the country’s recent major quakes. A large number of people remain trapped under debris as rescue and medical teams work nonstop. PAHO says hospitals require immediate assistance to manage further emergencies.
