A Sydney woman named Carolyn has become the first person in Australia interred in a coffin grown from mushrooms. The Guardian and the Sydney Morning Herald shared the story on September 7.
The coffin is produced using mycelium, the underlying network of fungi. It degrades rapidly and puts nutrients back into the earth. People in the funeral industry say that more Australians are currently seeking greener funeral options, instead of standard graves or cremation.
